A rare, American abstract modernist sterling silver and exotic wood necklace, circa 1950’s designed by Irvin and Bonnie Burkee of Arizona. Necklace is comprised of hand forged, curvilinear shaped sterling silver and a hinged, hand carved wood pendant. Centerpiece measures 5″ by 3″ and 6″ of chain on each side allowing about 17″ of wearable neck length. Signed Burkee, Sterling on reverse. In very good condition showing some signs of wear conducive with age.
Irvin and Bonnie Burkee created jewelry starting in the 1950s. Their designs often incorporated natural and organic elements, such as wood, stone, and shell. Irvin was also well known for his paintings of Native Americans and landscapes.
