Art Deco Showcase – Lalique Glass Doors

SOLDBuilt in 1927 and opened in 1928, Los Angeles” Oviatt Building was an architectural crown jewel in the downtown area. Originally opened as a mens haberdashery, the Oviatt was decorated in the height of Art Deco opulence. Lalique was hired to create the decorative glass elements, and the front entrance door still bears the signature of Rene Lalique. When converted years later to a restaurant, the original showcases were removed and sold. A custom iron and wooden cabinet was designed to house the glass, and newer interior shelves and hardware were also fabricated. The exterior metalwork was executed in the finest fashion, reminiscent of the Art Deco ironwork of Edgar Brandt. The interior was fitted out with grey mohair wrapped panels, and lighting was installed. The case is the ultimate showcase for any serious collection of Lalique glass!
