Art Deco 1939 Deluxe Wurlitzer Butterfly Piano – SOLD
SOLD! In 1939, Wurlitzer introduced the "butterfly" pianos, aptly named for the unique winged top design. There were variations in cabinet appointments, such as legs, music stands, and lyres. This "deluxe" version makes the ultimate Art Deco statement, with streamlined elements, including a quartet of raised banding around the body. The "wings" open to reveal a secondary ported top, decoratively cut-out to allow the sound to ring out. As the piano is ready for restoration, the case can be refinished in either magnificent burled walnut or hand rubbed black lacquer – the photos show previous pianos we have sold in both versions. This fine instrument has a rich, full tone and no condition issues. The matching bench will be recovered in new leather, and all metal trim elements have been newly chromed or brass plated. The piano will take appx 8-10 weeks to complete restoration from time of purchase.
