Gilbert Rohde Armchair – Troy Sunshade Co.

Gilbert Rohde, one of the premiere American Modern designers of the 1930’s Art Deco period, designed everything from small lamps and clocks, to incredible furnishings. His works for Herman Miller propelled the company to the forefront of American makers. He also did earlier works for the Troy Sunshade Company, a producer of metal and chromium furniture. Many of these designs were more commercial in appearance, and were utilized in department stores, salons, and the like. This particular chair is more of an elegant “club chair”, with a deep upholstered cushion seat, and a natural springing bounce to the frame. The chair was recovered some years back, and the upholstery is in fine original condition. The chrome tubular frame shows wear, and some loss of plating in areas. Of course, this could be remedied by re-chroming the chair, if you choose.
