Carter the Great Magic Poster – The World’s Weird Wonderful Wizard
SOLDBeautifully framed Carter the Great Magic Poster – The World’s Weird Wonderful Wizard c. 1920’s. This is an original, large 3 Sheet poster in excellent condition with rich and vibrant colors, mounted on linen. It depicts the Magician gazing into a crystal ball with devils and cards flying about. Absolutely gorgeous!
Charles Joseph Carter (1874–1936) or “Carter the Great” was an American magician in the height of the Magic Craze at the turn of the century. Among the highlights of Carter’s stage performances during his career were the classic “sawing a woman in half” illusion (an elaborate surgical-themed version with “nurses” in attendance), making a live elephant disappear and “cheating the gallows”, where a shrouded Carter would vanish, just as he dropped at the end of a hangman’s noose.
The poster is framed beautifully and measures 78.5″ tall by 42″ wide. I will be happy to provide a quote for shipping. If the poster is to be re-framed it can be sent without the frame, rolled in a tube, very reasonably. The condition of the poster is excellent with only a couple fold lines and one area with a small paper loss. Please see photos.
