Tom Mix Sterling Pitcher – Metropolitan Driving Club, Boston 1928
30% OFF! A driving club was an exclusive and private club for horse carriage activities. After the popularity of the motor car, driving clubs fell out of fashion, and eventually evaporated. One of the most famous in the country was Boston's Metropolitan Driving Club. In June of 1928 they sponsored a Special Trotting Race at the club. This was won by famous Hollywood cowboy movie star Tom Mix, on his horse Worthy Express. He was presented with this sterling silver drink pitcher, engraved especially to him. The inscription reads “Metropolitan Driving Club of Boston Special Trotting Race, June 8, 1928, won by Worthy Express, Driven by Tom Mix. The heavy silver vessel is in great original condition, with no dents. The underside is marked P. Revere Reproduction (of an earlier vessel form) and Sterling 220.
