Monumental Art Deco 1930s Wrestling Plaque

SOLD!An incredible study of two wrestlers locked in a leg hold in the ring. The work, by an unknown WPA era artist of the 1930s, came out of a gymnasium of the University of Denver, Colorado. The bodies, ropes and pole are all high raised relief over a flattened background. The execution of the carving is of the highest quality. The work is backed with wood and surrounded by a painted wooden form frame. The large scale is as impressive as the work itself. The art has had some maintenance restoration and looks fantastic. It is solid and heavy!
