ON SALE $750!Iver Rose (American 1899 – 1972) was born in Chicago. He studied Hull House in Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Cincinnati Academy. He moved to New York in 1923, focusing on commercial art. He returned to Chicago in 1930, where he began to work on more socially relevant themes in his works. He worked on the WPA Illinois Art Project at that time, as well. His works are exhibited at the Chicago Public Library, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Carnegie institute, the University of Georgia, Des Moines Art Center and the San Diego Fine Arts Gallery, as well as others. He exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and was part of the traveling exhibitions of the American federation of Arts and Modern Art.
Our work is a scene of Depression era children, a recurring subject in Rose’s work. There is some minor creasing to the paper on the bottom left corner and upper center. The work is signed Iver Rose in the lower right corner. The painted wood frame appears to be original, and displays overall wear of age. The painting is under glass.
