Lackner “Curvaline” Neon Desk Clock in Lucite and Mahogany
Best known for large exterior neon signs and clocks, the Lackner company also offered a short lived line of neon clocks for the home. They featured cases in catalin, bakelite, and wood, with Lucite accents. Ours is referred to as a “curvaline” model, and was produced in the 1940s. The body is refinished mahogany, with a wraparound face of recently polished Lucite. Housed in the small body is a clock motor, a neon tube and transformer. The light of the blue neon tube passes through a slot in the wooden body, and travels through the curved Lucite. The carved circular markers glow brightly, as do the edges of the material. The clock motor has just been professionally serviced, and the clock works perfectly. There is a setting knob on the backside, as well as an on and off switch for the neon light. The original Lackner label is still intact on the backside, as well.
