Inlaid Burl Andrew Szoeke Table Lamp – 1950s
Andrew Szoeke (Austrian 1893 – 1969) Immigrated to the United States in 1921, where he began a career in advertising illustration. he was hired by Hallmark, where he designed the iconic crown logo still in use by Hallmark today. He later began designs in wood, bringing his graphic talents to the medium by applying intricate marquetry inlays to the surfaces. Our Szoeke table lamp is in very fine condition. The body of the lamp is a burled wood, with fruitwood marquetry. The base and stem are a darker walnut. The shade is new, and the wood has been freshened with a new lacquer coating added to the original finish. The lamp works and displays beautifully.
