Robert Brian “Jocko” Johnson (American 1936-2008) is best known in the automotive racing world. He began his training with the legendary car builder George Barris, and went on to great fame of his own. His revolutionary engine designs were used in top race cars, and his own race car designs won the quarter mile land speed record of 1959. He later turned his design efforts to sculpting objects and furniture. He was represented by the Challis Gallery of Laguna Beach California for 18 years. He created the first “Jocko's Rocker” for the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts in 1976, and was featured in the California Design '76 exhibit and book with his rocking chair design. Our chair is signed “Jocko's Rockers #2 1998”. All elements are hand-sculpted oak, with exposed steel
