Art Deco Philco Radiobar Finely Restored Cocktail Cabinet
Although most Americans continued drinking during Prohibition, it was considered more tasteful to keep it “under wraps.” This Philco “Radiobar” was the perfect cabinet to house the family's radio set and the grown ups' cocktail bar. Various cabinet designs were offered, but this streamlined Art Deco version is by far the most luxurious. Combinations of exotic woods and a chrome interior create a striking design. Once opened, the top exposes the bar area, which has been completely re-plated in mirror chrome. The original glassware is a very complete collection. Note the marked decanters (bourbon, rye, etc.) The bar area also has built in lighting activated from the reverse side. The radio has been rebuilt as well, and has a deep, rich tone, as only the old tube sets can offer. The wood cabinet has been beautifully refinished, as well as new replacement radio grille cloth. The cabinet displays strongly, and should be a welcome addition to any interior.
