1950s Painted Chalkware Sexy Sailors
This fantastic grouping of muscular sailors date back to the 1950s and are quite a mystery. As alternate lifestyles weren't really “out” yet, it makes one wonder how these were marketed. It is possible that they were used as a store advertising for a sun tan lotion, as one of the mates is still quite pale. Whatever the origins, they a quite wonderful and in good original condition. The material is a molded plaster, referred to a “chalk ware” in the collectible world. The figures are airbrushed and hand-painted, and display very well. They are generously scaled, with the standing man at just over fifteen inches tall.
